Jan came to America, from Poland, July 16,1886 aboard the ship "Wieland" from Hamburg to New York and settled in the southeast side of Cleveland, now referred to as "Slavic Village". He married Theresa Cwiklinski on February 4, 1891 at St. Stanislaus Church by Rev. F. Rostanewski in the presence of Peter Mocradto and Maria Dienkowzka. They had ten children.

We traced the family in Bratuszewo, Olsztyn Province (Warmia Mazury) back to the year about 1760.
