My family came from Carrollton, Carroll Co., Ga. and some of us moved to the Dallas, Texas area.

My line comes from William Bailes Gilley. He was born in South Carolina. I believe he and his family moved from SC to Tenn. where he spent his childhood, then he and his brother Jordan Gilley started out on their own. After Wm. married they settled in carroll county and he finally became a large land owner. In 1850 the census showed he wened 4,000 acres and in the 1860 census he owned 5,000.
He donated 5 acres of land for the Gilley Cemetery. There is a Gilley reunion held there the 1st Saturday of August each year.

He was known as the "Judge".
