My research is devoted to the Gilbert Family Tree.The family history has so far gone back to 1756 when Joseph Hiram Gilbert was born in Montgomery County, VA. Joseph later married the widow of William Cheek and moved to Lee County VA, where they raised a family of five on a farm located near Thompson Settlement, a few miles north of the Tennessee, Virginia state line. The county seat is Jonesville,VA and the Gilbert farm is located about 15 miles south on Wallen Ridge and Wallen Creek. The family burial plot is on the farm and is marked with field stones. I have been to the farm but did not locate the burial plot nor the old foundation of the house which does exist. I would be most happy to answer any questions pertaining to this subject and entertain shearing information. I started my research of the Gilbert family in 1995, with about fifty individuals and as of today it contains near 9000. and has gone from VA and TN to several mid and western states.
