"The Making of a Tree", is a genealogical journey into the past. It includes a travel from a common trunk back through history along different branches to past generations. It tries in many instances, to give a humanistic approach to a list of names, dating back to the 1500's, by adding information and stories about different ancestors. Before I begin this endeavor, I must acknowledge the many friends and relatives who have made this works possible. First and foremost, my sister MS. Louise M. Traunstein, who started this project back in the 1970's and did much of the preliminary work leading up to and through it's conclusion. Her contribution has been invaluable, giving me a point of reference, and in pointing me in the right directions. I must admit that without her imput and urging, we may never have progressed this far. I say this very candidly as a genealogical study is never completed, and always needs encouragement, to help propel one forward. I also wish to thank the computer-on-line, Norway List, created by Maria Halsan Mattila. This list has been invaluable in tracing my Norwegian roots by allowing me to make friends and contacts who have enthusiastically looked up and researched lines of relatives for me. In this regard, I wish to thank Retired Dr. Olaf Kringhaug for his help in translations and in the research of the bygdebok for Malvik. I also wish to acknowledge Retired Headmaster Olav Sjømæling, for his assistance, in doing lookups and research for me. I must also give recognition to my cousin, Dave Hinz & his mother, who was met through the Norway List, and gave me a great deal of information about Johanna Gulbrandsen, my grand aunt and her line with the Ole Oleson Black Family. A great deal of credit must go to my Canadian cousin, Heather Elaine Babcock Chevalier, for her fantastic genealogical research of my Canadian family. She was able to trace the Babcock and Estabrook lines, from which I am also decended, back into England and Flanders in France. I must give credit to Barbara Smith and Joe Hanley for there on going research into the Abraham Rhodes & Parmealy (Anne)Parker lines. I must give further credit to Paul Bourassa for his help in locating and tracing the Turcault(Turcotte), Ladouceur, lines of my ancestry back into France and also connecting my family to the Algonquin Indians through two generations of Bouviers.
