Want ancestor of David Giles,
Notes/leads: David Giles born about 1873, Texas. Lived in Houston, Died in 1928 m. Addie Hardy; b: abt 1876 Texas, D: 15 Sep 1966 United State
Only oral tradition exists so far. This story is most probably concerning David's father as it includes "not long after the Civil War..." but could be about David so I just use "Mr. Giles". The story goes that Mr. Giles was walking down railroad tracks and came across a train wreck of some kind-- a collision or a derailment with injuries. He ran for help, following the telegraph line until he found a telegraph office, and reported the accident. Help was sent and in thanks, Mr. Giles was given a job with "the railroad."
Son of David and Addie: Dorris David Giles, (a.k.a, "D. D. Giles," "Doc," "Doctor Giles") b. June 25, 1899 in Texas, d. October 22, 1960.
Dorris David was awarded the Carnegie Medal for Heroism (Houston), used scholarship money from award for first PhD. ever awarded by Texas A&M in Bryan, Texas. Became Dean of Stephen F. Austin, Nacogdoches (where he had been a veterinarian).
