From Bingen on the Rhine, Germany, on July 5, 1849, came Nicolaus Gilsdorf and four sons, Mathias, Andreas, Joseph, and Henry, along with Johan and his family. After arriving in New York, they settled in Wisconsin. Mathias' family migrated to Nebraska; later part of the family migrated to Oregon where my father, Eugene, was born. Half of my family was born in Portland; we migrated to California in 1948, settling in the San Francisco Bay Area. My father worked on the family tree for many years, producing large binders for each of his aunts and uncles. These have now been partially entered on Family Tree Maker, currently with 3900 names. A couple of binders left will be entered this summer, 2003.
