Hi, I'm Herb Gillham, a descendant of Thomas Gillham, Sr., who was believed to have been born in Ulster, Ireland or England around 1710 and to have come to America around 1730.
Although considerable information is known about Thomas and his descendants, I have yet to find any other researcher who can shed any light as to Thomas' date or place of birth or death, parents or siblings or his final resting place.
Thanks to the efforts of Dr. Ernest Russell, another Gillham descendant with help from Mr. Jerry West, of York County, South Carolina, a marker commemorating Thomas, Sr. was placed in the Bullock Creek Cemetery near Sharon, SC in 2001 or 2002.
Thomas was married 1st to Mary Meade, by whom his children were Charles, Ezekiel, Mary and Nancy. After the death of Mary Meade around 1740, supposedly at the hand of either an Indian or a slave, Thomas, Sr. narried Margaret Campbell, by whom he had Sarah, Susannan, Thomas, Jr., James, William, John and Isaac.
Thomas, all of his sons, two sons in law and at least one grandson served with SC militia first during Indian wars in South Carolina and later, the Revolutionary War.
I have been an amateur genealogist since 1987. I use Family Tree Maker as my genealogy program, and I am always looking to meet other of Thomas, Sr.'s descendants or any folks who share the surname with its various spellings.
If you are interested in this family name, please e-mail me @ hjglm@email.msn.com or snail mail me: Herb Gillham, 2700 Highway 67 (Missouri Avenue), Granite City, Illinois 62040-2029.
Any and all input will be appreciated and all inquiries will be acknowledged.
Happy hunting.
Herb Gillham
