I have been working on my genealogy since 1995 and have traced it back to a Thomas Gillespie (1719-1797). He is buried in the old Thyatira Chruchyard in Rowan, NC.

I've have found dozens of distant cousins who have traced their lines back to this Thomas so that they could become Sons or Daughters of the American Revolution. However, none of them made any effort to go further back.

I believe that Thomas was of the first generation to be born in America, but I can't verify his ansestry.
