Researching Northern Alberta, Canada for my roots has become a wonderful new hobby for myself. Still in the beggining stages- there is lots to learn and find. Right now I am looking into learning about the "Athabasca Landing". I have just learned that my great-great-great grandfather was Louis Fosseneuve, who was to become a very important part of "Athabasca's" history. He was nicknamed "Sure Shot", which is were the name "Shot" came from. He and some other Metis and Cree boatman steered scows up and down the Athabasca River for the Hudsons Bay Company in the late 1880's. They became known as the "Athabasca Brigade". I have little knowledge of my family history and hope that by starting here I will be able to learn more, and pass onto my children their roots so they will never feel the lost sense of "who am I". My mothers maiden name was Powder and my great-grandmothers maiden name was McKinney.
