My Great Grandfather was William Burke, so I thought.
I have always heard the story of his changing his name to his mother's maiden name.
He was born Oscar Trahan from Baton Rouge. He married and then divorced, and took his mother's maiden name (a revised spelling of it) Burke. Which his mother's name was Bourque (I think).
Well he not only changed his last name, but his first name as well. The reason for this action is still unknown.

After changing his name, to William Burke he then moved to or around Chaneyville, La
