MY GILLASPIE and WALCHLI Family Trees

Updated March 8, 2001

About Our Family Research

My name is Nancy Faye [Gillaspie] Walchli. I live in California, and have always been interested in our family history, and history in general. I think I can credit my Grandmother Dorothy Standish Gillaspie for sparking my interest in our "Roots"..she loved to recount tales of her early days growing up with three sisters in Wyoming, and later in Boulder, Colorado, where she met and married John Henry Gillaspie. She had excellent recall of events, dates, and had wonderful stories to tell. She kept records, documents, and old family letters and photographs, and she delighted in sharing these treasures with whomever would sit still long enough!. Eventually, I guess it all took hold of me.....and now I have become her!
I keep the records, and have charge of all of the handed down, and newly found, family treasures !
Grandmother Dorothy lived 6 months short of reaching 100 years....she was a treasure herself!
The Gillaspie roots start in VA, thru KY, then into Missouri for a time, finally settling in Kansas, until some of the family moved on into Colorado, and silver mining, where John Newell Gillaspie married Mary Calhoun.
My mothers side, the ALLEN/HUFFT line, is PURE Missouri!
My husband's Great-Grandfather JOHN WALCHLI was from Berne, Switzerland, and G-Grandmother Anna was from Germany.
On his mother's side,HARRY BATES was from England, and wife
MARTHA CAIRNS came at age 12 with her family from Scotland.
Mr. Bates met Martha Carins while working on the railroad in
Missouri..her brothers were working there also, and brought Mr. Bates home for dinner one night. They married, and eventually moved to Salt Lake City for a short time, then into Idaho, where my husband was born and raised.
It always amazes me, the migrations of our family lines, and I enjoy the study of the history of my ancestors.
