This family is descended from Henry Gill, originally of Australian descent whose family came to Trinidad, it is believed, in the mid 1800's. His place of birth is not known, but it is said that his family were a group of traveling actors who ended up in the Caribbean. Family lore tells of another brother who supposedly settled on the island of St. Vincent, where there exists a large number of people with this last name. It is not known if they are descendents.
Henry Gill married a Trinidadian woman of French-Creole descent with whom he had six children: Malcom, Edgie, Harold, Tina, Muriel and Dorothy Gill. Henry passed away in about 1915. Malcom Vincent Gill married Olga Zena Hackshaw in the 1940's and went on to have three children: Henry Steadman Gill, Helen Gill who later became Helen Abraham, and Carol Gill, who became Carol Creque and then Mohan respectively. This page is written by the daughter of Henry Steadman Gill, Natasha Simone Gill.
