Decendants And Ancestors of Wilson Dorr Monnett

Updated March 5, 2007

About Our Family Research

The Saint Bartholomews Day Massacre was the main event that was responsible for our Monnett ancestors leaving France and coming to America. There had been religious disputes and political upheavals between Catholics and Protestants-Huguenots. The Catholic Church felt threatened by the growing Protestant religion and with the blessing of the Pope, and Queen Catherine, the massacre took place in 1572.

Our ancestor Pierre Monnet died as a result of this massacre in 1572 but his son, also Pierre escaped his father's fate and came to America, thus starting our American beginnings.
