Thomas Shanton had already married Matilda McGillivary Love as shown in the 1871 Hamilton, Ontario, Canada census. She had 5 children from a prior marriage to a Mr. Love. Of those children, Elizabeth Love, married William Henry Frazee.
Tom and Matilda's children were GEORGE REYNOLDS SHANTON, born Oct 28, 1868, and HARRY/HENRY SHANTON, both born in Rome, NY. George was captain of the guards during the building of the Panama Canal. Then went to Cuba/Puerto Rico. Was a prosecutor of the Herrin Massacre in Illinois in the 1920's. He married Margaret Rees and they had Cornelia Margarita (Rita) and Georgia Lamar (Babs). Rita married Henry Gregory Granger. They had H. R. SHANTON GRANGER, who lived in Manhattan. Rita married a Heminway. George died in 1928 and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Harry was buried there also.
William Frazee was born in Rahway, New Jersey in 1857. William is shown on the 1870 Middlesex County, New Jersey census that he lived with James and Sarah Vanderbilt. His April 1880 marriage certificate from Laramie, Wyoming shows that he was just prior to April 1880 in Leadville, Colorado. This was during the gold rush in Leadville. William owned a mercantile business in Laramie called "The Leader." In 2003, the building was still standing and being used. Elizabeth and William lived in Laramie until about 1910. They had 7 children of which Shirley was my grandmother. About 1910 the family moved to Reno, Nevada and later to Salt Lake City, Utah.
Shirley married Holly Glenn Sargent September 28, 1918 in Salt Lake City. Shirley died December 1919. Glenn, his brothers and sisters were born in Fonda, Iowa. Their parents were Alberti and Lydia Stevens Sargent. Lydia's parents were Edgar Lafayette Stevens and Emeline Place of Fort Dodge, Iowa. I am looking for any information on these families. E-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Snail mail is good also.
