My greatgrandfather was John J. Gillespie of Grand Rapids, MI. he married Ann Roggy and had four sons: Bernard, Irving, Martin J., and Leo. My grandfather was Martin J. Gillespie, who was born in Sand Lake, MI. Martin, a lumber salesman, married Irene Mehen of Grand Rapids and moved to Detroit. They had four children: Stephen Martin b. 1913, d. 1983, Mary, John Martin and Irving. My father was Stephen Martin who became a physician in Dearborn, MI. He married Catharine Marian Jackson, b. 1918, a registered nurse, at Detroit. They had six children: Mary P., b. 1941, Stephen Martin Jr. b. 1942, d. 1963, Catharine M. "Kitty",b. 1944, Terrence Alan, b.1947, Thomas D., b. 1950, and Ilene A., b. 1953. My father served in WWII in the 99th division and was wounded at St. Vith.
