William left Cottage Grove soon after Emma died, she had been ill for some time. He died in Oak Park, IL.
In a letter I received from Helen (Neefe) Larson dated January 17, 2002, she told me that when she lived and worked in Chicago (1934-1942), mail was hand sorted in the post offices. One evening she received a call from a Mr. Uphoff, who worked in the Chicago Post Office. He was sorting mail and when he saw the name Neefe on a letter, he copied the name and address, looked it up in the telephone directory, and called her. He went to her apartment one evening and they visited. Years have dimmed her memory and she can't recall his first name, but was sure he said he had grown up in Cottage Grove and was connected to the Neefe's in some way.
