CHARLES W. NEEFE
Charles W. Neefe, 75, passed away at Valley Baptist Medical Center, Wednesday, January 23, 2002 in Harlingen, Texas. Charles was born on March 18, 1926 in Natchez, Miss. to Russell and Tine Neefe. After retiring he had been a resident of Rancho Viejo for the past 12 years, moving here from Angel Fire, NM. Charles will be best remembered as a unique person and as a self made man who came from a humble background. He was a man of many talents who loved to fish and hunt as well as an avid photographer. And he was a deeply religious man and very loyal. He was a pioneer and true inventor in the contact lens industry. In fact he holds many patents related to regular and colored contact lens. He was a past president of the Contact Lens Manufacturers of America. He founded Neefe Optical Lab, which was located in Big Spring, Texas. For 37 years he devoted his research and development of new products as well as many advancements in the optical industry. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Brownsville, Texas and a member of the Rotary Club in Big Spring, Texas. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Joyclin Neefe of Rancho Viejo, Texas; children, Charles Neefe Jr. (Yumi) of Fallon, Nev., Barbara Neefe Hill (Tommy) of Midland, Texas, Russell Neefe (LaVerne) of Big Spring, Texas, John Mark Quick (Dede) of The Woodlands, Texas; Lisa Flood (Denzil) of Brownwood, Texas, Robert Quick (Karen) of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Tommy Wayne Hill Jr. of Midland, Texas; 12 other grandchildren and one great grandchild, Charles Albert Hill. Graveside services will be held at the Lubbock City Cemetery in Lubbock, Texas at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2002 with Pastor Ralph Mann officiating. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Brownsville, Texas at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2002. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials may be made to the University of Texas at Brownsville Scholarship Fund or to the American Heart Association.
