Berent Wessel Schulte from Germany immigrated to Leyden in the early 1600's. he changed his name to Schoet. His son born in Holland changed his name to Praetorius, and later to Pretorius when he lived in the Cape in 1666.
From here somewhere down the line Marthinus Wessel Pretorius was born. he was baptised in 1747. He was married twice and had 15 children.His oldest son is Andries, who had 2 wives. Their oldest son is Marthinus Wessel of Graaf-Reinett, born 17/09/1819. He became president of O.F.S., later of Tvl.(1864).
Later, Marthinus Wessel Pretorius, born 3 January (1880-1900). He was married to Magdelena Anna Nel, and had 9 children, of which William Archibald Brown Pretorius (born 18 June 1919) was my grandfather.
He had an oldest son named Marthinus Wessel Pretorius who passed when he was young. He also had 5 daughters of which one (my mom), is Louisa Adriaana Marthina Pretorius, now married Weber.
