Looking for Gleason's evacuated from Broadstairs, England

Updated March 8, 2002

About Our Family Research

The evacuation would have been effected in the 1940’s, during the bombing attacks by Germany.

The evacuees I am looking for are:
Anne Elizabeth Gleason, maiden name Gardener (probably deceased)
Walter Gleason (probably deceased)

Approximate ages at evacuation 40-50.

And their children:
Albert Gleason - born approximately 1925
Arthur Gleason - born approximately 1929

They also had two other children:
Philadelphia Gleason - who died at the age of six months, and is buried at St. Peters, England.
James Gleason - who ran away from home at the age of 15. He joined the Merchant Marines and later came to the United States.

Anne and Walter moved to the surrounding area of Broadstairs, England from Belfast, Ireland approximately in 1924 - 1927.

Walter Gleason served in World War I. He was wounded in the leg and captured by the Germans. When he came back he worked as a caretaker. They lived above what is now called Joss Bay, about 1 or 2 miles in from the shore.

James Gleason is my father. He was born on Nov. 17, 1921 in Belfast, Ireland. He came to Broadstairs when he was about 6 years old, around the year 1927. He went to school at The St. Peter's school around the years 1928 to 1935. My father left home when he was about 15 years old, around 1936, and joined the Merchant Marines.
