The Glessing Family Auburn NY

Updated September 29, 2010

About Our Family Research

William Glessing started the Glessing family tree with his great grand parents who emigrated from Germany to Auburn, NY. They arrived at Ellis Island on 22 June 1867 and made their home in Springport, NY. Several years later, they moved to Auburn, NY.

There is a rumor that Jakob Glessing was a gardener in Germany and fell in love with Sophia Van Gough who was the daughter of a wealty family. Because Sophia was of a higher class, they were not allowed to marry. This is the reason they emigrated to the United States. Sophia even changed her last name to Van Haaf, when she boarded the ship, so that her parents would not be able to find them.

The family history starts here with Jakob and Sophia and I have been able to trace Jakob's parents back another three generations to a small town in Germany called Untereisesheim.
