Updated November 9, 2000

About Our Family Research

John A.Godfrey was Haitian and was born April, 1840 and according to the 1900 census was 60 years of age, so relative to him being born after Haiti became independent in 1804 and the Dominican Republic came into existance in 1844 , it is still a research project to find out, when he was brought to, or came to the colony of South Carolina .
However, the 1900 census records that John A. Godfrey was a butcher by trade and he could read and write.

William Craig was born in Prince Edward county, Farmville, Virgiia according to my research information, in January 1850 according to the 1900 government census, however I received some oral information that he was about 35 years old in the 1870 census, which I am researching.

Robert George Brown according to his marriage certificate was born in Jamaica, B.W.I., on 13 October 1872 and his wife's name was Minnie Craig, born in Prince Edward county, Farmville, Virginia in November 1844. Robert's father's name was Thomas F. Brown and mother, Isabella Percy.
Minnie's father's name was William Craig and mother was Elizzie Beth Evans, born in Virginia which I am researching the counties.
