I am researching the Gowell family geneology, building on work already done by my father, great-aunt, etc.
I already have 'Old Kittery and Her Families' by Everett S. Stackpole, 1903, Lewiston ME, 2nd edition 1970, Old Berwick Historical Society, South Berwick ME. This seems to be the most authoritative history of Kittery Maine, the hometown of the Gowell family in the US. 'Old Kittery' contains a Gowell family geneology beginning with first settler Richard Gowell (recorded being in Kittery 1679) up to latter 1700's, at which time the Gowells emigrated to Lebanon NH, Minot (now Auburn) Me, and Bowdoin and Litchfield ME. Another Gowell geneology is 'Ancestor Richard Gowell and Descendants' compiled by Charles E. Sinnett, Fertile, Minnesota. This is a 36 page typescript, my copy of which came from the Geneology Section, Public Library, Fort Wayne Indiana and seems fairly complete up to the early 1800's, with a few notes on individuals up to the mid-1800's. I am especially interested in Gowells pre-1679 (Wales?) & post-1800.
