Notes for John Henry Misner: Apparently abandoned his children to the "Home for the Friendless" in Baltimore after the death of his wife. Louis F. Apparently went by Frank. On the 1900 census there is a second middle initial but I can't tell if it's a G or an S.
John, went by Johnny his whole life and was apparently mentally deficient in some manner whether retarded or simply of very low IQ. He never married and lived his whole life in boarding houses doing odd jobs.
Sylvia (my great-grandmother) left the orphanage as a teenager and was married at age 16.
The family name is seen spelled Meisenger, on a 1920 census where Sylvia and John appear in the orphanage. It is also spelled Meissinger on Johnny's Social Security Death Record.
Another record, atleast partly correct is a death notice:
John T. Misner, killed New years day 1949. He was hit on the Williamsport Pike as he was walking along the edge facing traffic."The impact of the collision knocked Misner's shoes off. He said Misner was wearing four pairs of socks."-State Police corporal Charles Mades. Interment-Rose Hill Cemetery.
He did in fact die on 01 Jan 1949, however, what was the correct spelling of his name? And the middle initial it listed as H in the 1900 census.
"The News" (Frederick, MD) 03 Jan 1949 "State and City Police here were called by State Police Corp. Charels D. Mades to notify Mrs. Atlee Haines, this city, that a relative, John Misner age 76 years, Brookline Ave Hagerstown, was fatally injured when struck by an automobile while he was walking along US Route 11, two miles north of Williamsport about 7AM New Years Morning."
Other versions include: Misener, Misner, Mizner
