John Maynor died 1699 in Surry County, Virginia235.
Notes for John Maynor: The spelling of the surname in the 1600s and 1700s varied widely: Maynor, Maynard, Maner, Mainer, Mayner, etc.
(It has been suggested that John Maynor's father and our immigrant ancestor was Griffin Maymor, who arrived in Virginia in 1635 at age twenty-one on the Constance, sailing from London. The fact that the name Griffin does not show up in any of the later generations makes that theory questionable, however.)
This interesting note from p. 168 0f York County, Virginia, Records 1665-1672 may or may not be about our John Maynor: [1670] "John Maynard confessed committing fornication with Elizabeth Crighton and is ordered to receive 20 lashes on his bare shoulders." Elizabeth Crighton's sentence is given on the next page: "Elizabeth Crighton, for fornication, is ordered to receive 20 lashes on her bare shoulders, well laid on, and is to serve two years after her term of indenture. The punishment is remitted, her master David Boswell having promised to pay to Middletown Parish her fine of 500 lbs tob. by 1671."
Children of John Maynor are:
