About Our Family Research

This is a family who originated in South Carolina in the early 1800 and migrated to Jasper Co. Georgia around 1820-1830 two brothers David R. and Jethro Griffin. David R. is my Great Grandfather whos' wife was listed as Bashti in a later census report in Jasper Co. David had 7-8 childern and his three oldest sons fought in the civil war in the 44 Georgia Infantry. Their names were John Griffin who joined first and a year later the other two Jefferson, and George Y. (My Great Grandfather) Joined. I understand they each joined in Macon Ga. in 1861 and 1862 respectively. All three were captured in Spotsavanyila
Pen. one day appart and were prisoners of war until the war ended. One was severly wounded but all three returned to Jasper Co. Ga. after the war. George Y. later married a Lue Shropshire and had several children. One son was Eugene Parker Griffin, my gandfather who later married Lizzie O. Jackson and raised five boys, one of which was Marvin Griffin, my father.
