My interest in Genealogy is the result of many long and wonderful summer afternoons on Grandpa and Grandma Winter's sunporch, listening to Gram and our local historian, Margaret Coppess, discuss the background and history of our family and many other Garden Peninsula residents.
My paternal grandparents, Gene & Minnie Bernier, lived at the other end of town and I spent precious time with them, listening to family stories. Grandpa loved to talk about his childhood in Quebec and days in logging camps. Grandma liked to tell about her brothers and sisters and of dancing all night when she was young girl.
How I wish I had been bright enough to put all of those stories down on paper! Luckily, Mrs. Coppess did just that and was so generous in sharing the information with others. The information that she gathered was the starting point for my research and I have worked backwards from there for the past forty years.
