The Delaware Grubb Family Updated October 14, 2001
About Our Family Research
I have birth and death records; family diaries, family pictures, military records collected for many years by my mother Lily May Spangler Grubb (1917 -1997).
She married William Franklin Grubb Jr (1910-1984) the son of William Franklin Grubb Sr (1884-1965). The suffix Sr was adopted by my grandfather upon the birth of his son since his father was not living. I have all records and pictures related to their birth, death and military service. WF grubb Jr served in the Army during WW II (110th regiment,28th Division, wounded Battle of the Bulge - Dec 21st 1944) & Korea. WF Grubb Sr served in the navy from 1903 (lied about his age to get in) until 1945. Served WW I (24 Aug 1914-3 Sep 1919) aboard the destroyers the USS Birmingham and USS McCall. Served aboard the USS Memphis (2/4/1925-7/29/1927) which was the ship that brought Charles A Lindbergh home after his historic solo flight across the Atlantic - have Lindbergh's autograph on a luncheon menu dated 8 June 1927 The luncheon was given in Lindbergh's honor by the Chief Petty Officers Mess aboard the USS Memphis. He was also recalled to active duty for WW II.
William Franklin Grubb (1860 -1908) was the father of William Franklin Grubb Sr (1884-1965) I have family pictures, information from diaries and the military records of his service in the Spanish American war - Company L, 1st Delaware Volunteers (16 May 1898-16 Nov 1898) also have his promotion to corporal (dated 26 Sep 1898).
I know his father's name was Lewis C Grubb who died 25 November 1921, who was born in Wilmington Delaware. His spouses name was recorded in my baby diary by my mother as Margeret (Grubb)with - we were never sure of her surname. My data ends with Lewis C. Grubb. I have several family pictures which included Lewis C. Grubb taken around 1910?
