Robert Doty (son of Reuben Doty and Marie Eurasie Borel) was born 23 Mar 1829 in St. Martin Parish, and died 1867 in St. Mary Parish. He married Virginia Kershaw on 29 Dec 1852 in Franklin Courthouse & Episcopal Ch..
Notes for Robert Doty: A notice in the Planter's Banner, a St. Mary Parish newspaper, dated 1 January 1853, states' "Married - On Bayou Sale, Wednesday, 29 December 1852, by the Rev. C. S. HEDGES, Mr. Robert DOTT (sic DOTY) to Miss Virginia KERSHAW, both of this parish." (Sanders, St. Mary Links)
Robert and his wife, Virginia, were first cousins. Robert's mother, Marie Eurasie BOREL (#B22), and Virginian's mother, Pelagie BOREL (#B23), were sisters. They were both daughters of Joseph Francois BOREL, Sr. (#B4) and Elizabeth ANDREWS. See Appendix A for more information on the BOREL family.
Robert D07Y served in the Civil War as a private with Company I, 3rd (Harrison's) Louisiana Cavalry. He was listed on a Roll of Prisoners of War, paroled at New Iberia, Louisiana on 11 June 1865. His residence was listed as St. Mary Ph., LA. Robert served in Company I alongside two of his brothers, William and Daniel DOTY, and his brother-in-law John C. STANSBURY. In the 1860 census, Robert, Virginia and their children lived in St. Mary Ph. Their 1870 census record was not located.
In the 1880 census, the widowed Virginia lived with her children in Ward 2, St. Mary Ph. Virginia's occupation was listed as a nurse.
Robert DOTY died at age 38 years old in late 1867 in St. Mary Ph., LA. His estate was recorded on 19 November 1867 in Franklin Courthouse, LA, as #2130. Robert's estate mentions his wife Virginia and five of his children. Virginia gave birth to their last child, Mary Lydia, in March 1868 about four months after Robert's death.

The 3d (Harrison's) Regiment Louisiana Cavalry was first organized as a battalion about January, 1863, and was recognized as the 15 Battalion Louisiana Cavalry by the A.&I.G.O. in May, 1863.
It was increased to a regiment in July or August, 1863, and was known in the Trans-Mississippi Department as the 3 Regiment Louisiana Cavalry. It appears to have been finally paroled as the 3 and as Harrison's Regiment Louisiana Cavalry, at various places in West

The petition of Virginia Kershaw, a resident of the Parish of St. Mary and surviving wife of Robert Doty deceased late of said Parish, with respect represents that said Robert Doty recently died in the Parish aforesaid leaving as Heirs and representatives, Oscar Doty, Lamb Doty (sic Alexander), Adrien Doty (sic Henderson), Alice Doty and Francis Doty, minors issue of her marriage with said Robert Doty..."
