Notes for John Wesley Morris: John Wesley MORRIS's marriage to Julia EDGERLY was his third. John was married first to Amanda PRESSLER. Their only son, John, died young.
John W. MORRIS was married second to Adelaide "Ada" CHAPMAN. Their daughter, Lovenia Ellen MORRIS was born in November 1869 in Louisiana. Lovenia married D. BREAUX.
A sketch on John W. MORRIS in Southwest Louisiana Biographical and Historical (1891) states:
"John W. Morris was born in St. Mary parish, January 11, 1840. He is the son of B. and Hanna (Herran) Morris, both of whom were reared and married in Maryland, and immigrated early in life to St. Mary parish, Louisiana.
John W. Morris, the subject of this sketch, was reared in St. Mary parish, where he attended school until sixteen years of age, when he learned the carpenter trade. After working continuously at this for fifteen years, he became an overseer, which business he has followed up to the present time.... Mr. Morris is at present overseer on Alcide B. plantation, which is located on the north side of Bayou Cypremort, and is his permanent place of residence."
In the 1870 census, John W. MORRIS lived with his second wife, Ada, and their daughter, Lovenia, in Ward 4, Pattersonville, St. Mary Ph. In the 1880 census, John lived with his parents and daughter, Lovenia, in Franklin, St. Mary Ph.
In the 1900 census, John W. MORRIS, and his third wife, Julia, and their children lived on Washington St. in New Iberia, Iberia Ph. John's occupation was listed as a carpenter in 1870, 1880 and 1900.
The 1910 census records, for John and Julia, as well as for many of their children were not located.
