Notes for John (jacques) C. Stansbury: John C. STANSBURY's grandfather Charles Gorsuch STANSBURY, his wife Gulaelma COX, and their children moved from Maryland to Louisiana in 1819. The STANSBURY family was living in Maryland in the late 1600's, and has been traced back to the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215.

John C.'s father, Alfred STANSBURY, died in 1847 and his mother, Aimee Charlotte DEROUEN STANSBURY, died about 1844. Both of their successions were recorded in Franklin Courthouse, LA; Alfred's as #615, on 15 May 1847; and Aimee Charlotte's as #529, on 6 May 1844.
John C. STANSBURY served in the Civil War as a private with Company I, 3rd Louisiana Cavalry (Harrison's.) He was listed on a Roll of Prisoners of War, C.S.A., and was paroled in New Iberia, Louisiana on 13 June 1865. His residence at enlistment was St. Mary Parish. John served in the same company as his brothers-in-law: William, Daniel, and Robert DOTY. (Records of Louisiana Confederate Soldiers)
In the 1850 census, John C. STANSBURY lived with his uncle, John Horatio STANSBURY, and his family in St. Mary Ph. John Horatio's occupation was listed as a planter.
John C. STANSBURY died after 1865. Emilie DOTY STANSBURY died at age 45 years on 17 May 1878, Lydia Ch., Iberia Ph., LA.

Co. 1, 3 (Harrison's) Louisiana Cavalry.
The 3d (Harrison's) Regiment Louisiana Cavalry was first organized as a battalion about January, 1863, and was recognized as the 15 Battalion Louisiana Cavalry by the A.&I.G.O. in May, 1863.
It was increased to a regiment in July or August, 1863, and was known in the Trans-Mississippi Department as the 3 Regiment Louisiana Cavalry. It appears to have been finally paroled as the 3 and as Harrison's Regiment Louisiana Cavalry, at various places in West Louisiana.
