Notes for Clarence Henry Doty: Clarence Henry DOTY, Sr. , the first child of Alexander DOTY and Annie Caroline HAYDEL, was born on 13 September 1890, at Cypremort, St. Mary Ph., LA. Clarence was baptized at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Jeanerette, Iberia Ph., LA. Clarence was four years old when his father died.
In the 1900 and 1910 census, Clarence lived with his mother in Patterson, St. Mary Ph. In 1910, Clarence's occupation was listed as a salesman in a grocery store.
Clarence was called "King." The nickname "King" was acquired when Jessie (his future wife) was in nurse's training. Clarence would bring food to Jessie, the other nurses, and staff at the hospital. He was allowed to visit the nurses "after curfew." Thereby, they gave him the nickname "King of the hospital."
Clarence and Jessie lived in Patterson, La. for many years where he worked in a store owned by F.B. Willians. After the saw mill in Patterson closed down they moved to Franklin where he worked at another store owned by Alice C. Plantation until His retirement.
Both are buried in the Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, LA.
