Betty Telford was a black woman owned by the Telford family. She was born in N.C. around 1811. Her sons were Weston, Haywood, Frank, and Alfred(Tobe). All of the sons were listed as Mulatto on the Texas census schedules. Family rumors them to be of Cherokee and African American lineage. Their father is Essie Telford. He is listed on their death certificates. Some of the Telford clan are still Washington county, Texas and some,like myself, are in Oklahoma.
