Notes for Catherine Redmond: Notes for Catherine Redmond: Jim Ray sent a letter in regards to the deaths of Catherine and her daughter, Rosanna who died on the same day April 26, 1902. The Story was told to him by his mother Ella, was the family had gone by by the woods on the farm where some people from the city had been picnicking and Rosanna picked up a handkerchief that had been left by the picnickers. It was thought that she contracted the disease that killed her and her mother from the handkerchief. But the day that they died leaving the rest of the family, Peter and his 11 children sick with Scarlet fever. According to the newspaper article and I quote" "Scarlet fever rages in the Dawson family, who live just east of Half Day. Early Saturday morning Mrs Dawson and her seventeen year old daughter died and the father and the remaining eleven children are all sick with the disease . Some being very low.
The family is being given every care possible, their conditions pitiable, more particularly since they are now deprived of a mother's care"
