The Alvarez-Herrera Family

Updated December 27, 2004

About Our Family Research

Upon the government overthrow of Bautista and the establishment of a new fascist rule under Fidel Castro in 1959, and after 10 years of surviving in the communist regime, the Alvarez-Herrera family immigrated to the United States in 1970. Carlos Manuel Herrera and Concepcion (Conchita) Alvarez with children Carlos, Ricardo, Manolo and Ana went to the Bronx, New York to join Hector and Ofelia Aguilera, Conchita's older sister and her husband and their only son, Hector Jorge. Gladys Alvarez, Conchita's younger sister, and Luis Montalvo (her husband) and their four children, Luis, Jr., Raquel, Mirtha, and Cristina also immigrated to the the United States as well. On Carlos Manuel Herrera's side, Alicia (his older sister) and Jose (her husband) and their 4 boys were already living in Rosemead, California. Thus began the family's life in the United States.
