Descendants of White Bear and of Magnus Tait

Updated July 22, 2014

About Our Family Research

My maternal ancestor James Tate born v. 1759 orkney Islands Scotland, descendant of Magnus Tait emigrated from Scotland via Rupert's Land. His son William bv. 1792 in Rupert's land on the 13 of February 1829 at St. John's Church Red River. hemarried Mary Bear and they were among the first inhabitants of the Red River Settlement which is now known as Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Mary Bear was daughter of Chief White Bear and an unknown Metisse. White Bear is supposedly the son of Philip Turner and a native woman.

I hope to develop my paternal family tree with the aid of this site.

Thanks in advance,

Beth Haarsma
