I am doing some research on the Michael and Katharina (Schreiner) Haas, Sr. Family. We will have a centennial celebration in Hays, Kansas at the Holiday Inn from July 25 to July 27th, 2003. I hope to connect the family history not only with our ancestors who remained in Wittmann (Solothurn), Russia but also with our ancestors who came from Germany. According to our oral history, CONRAD AND JOSEPH HAAS left Germany around 1763-1764 from somewhere alone the Rhine River. They settled in Chasselois (Cheisol), Russia. Then, they moved to Mariental, Russia and finally, they settled in Wittmann (Solothurn), Russia.
Michael Haas, Sr.'s father and mother were: JACOB AND CHRISTINA (Herklotz) HAAS. Jacob was born around 1820. Michael Haas, Sr. was born on April 17,1846 in Wittmann, Russia. His wife, Katharina Schreiner was born on August 16, 1849 in Luzern, Russia. Katharina Schreiner's parents are: George Schreiner from Remmler, Russia and his wife, Katharina Krannawitter.
Michael and Katharina (Schreiner) Haas, Sr. left three married daughters in Russia when they left for the USA in November of 1902. They arrived in Ellis County, Kansas in January 2003. The daughters and their husbands who remained in Wittmann, Russia were: Ferdinand and Helen (Haas) Miller; Soloman and MaryAnna (Haas) Wild; and Ferdinand and Katharina (Haas)Koenig.
