About Our Family Research

2Gr.Grandfather John Swisher born on June 20-1820(Tuesday)somewhere in Pennsylvania. John moved to Pleasant Valley area(once called Snake Hollow)in Sugarcreek Township-Wayne County-Ohio at the age of 15.I am assuming he moved there with his parents but don't know exactly the parents names or any information on them.I did see on a 1850 census,John was a shoemaker and also had a John Sr.at there household at that time
at the age of 70(John Sr. birth date would be around 1780) Don't
know if this is 2Gr.John Swishers father or Grandfather. Also it is unclear as to weather John Sr. was visiting or living with 2Gr.John Swisher at the time of the 1850 Census.John Sr. was not on the 1860 census. So one does not really know if he died during that 10 year span or was living somewhere else.2Gr.John Swisher also had a sister Elizabeth birth date around 1819 and died in her brother Johns home on August 09-1890(71).2Gr John Swisher at the age of 25 married a Christina (Goudy)age 16 on Dec.25-1845.
They had nine children 4 boys-4 girls and 1 infant death.Names are in birth order 1. Samantha 2. Wm. Franklin 3. Abraham 4. Alice 5. Infant death 6. John Henry 7. Melissa 8. Melvin Joseph 9. Myra Mae. There children went to Pleasant Valley School District #1. 2 Gr. John Swisher was noted as an honorable upright citizen and during his life held positions of trust in the township. He was a trustee for Sugarcreek township around 1876-1877. He resided in the Pleasant Valley area for more then sixty-five years. Wife Christina was a homemaker-the light and joy of her home.Well respected by many and addressed as mam by many people.A faithful and consistent member of the German Reformed Church at Standwood(which was torn down around 1993).
Christina died Feb. 29-1888(Tuesday)(asthma)(59) and thirteen years later 2Gr. Grandfather John Swisher died on a Tuesday August 27-1901(Brights disease)(81).Funeal service took place at Pleasant Valley Church(possibly the church on Goudy Rd.) close to where he livedcon Lebanon Rd. John and his wift Christina are buried at the Dalton Cemetery-Dalton, Ohio Wayne County- Ohio
