All of my ancestors came to the US from the Netherlands, most during the period from 1847 to about 1881 to settle in the Dutch community around Pella, Iowa. I have identified all 16 of my great-great grandparents, all of whom were born in the Netherlands between 1796 and the early 1800's. Family names in my tree include Hackert, De Fockert, Hakkert, Van Maaren, Van Zee, De Wild, Vander Streek, Stomphorst, Vanden Berg, Vander Zyl, Lunenhorst, De Weert, Goemaat, Van Rossum, Ver Steeg, and Rooseboom. They come from places in the Netherlands like Herwijnen, Oldebroek, Culenberg, Ooltgensplaat, and Doordward. There are some indications that some of these families came to the Netherlands from Spain and England during the 16th and 17th centuries. I am interested in identifying the place of birth in the Netherlands of each branch of my tree and would like to visit these villages someday.
