The Klemczak Family of Philadelphia, PA Updated August 31, 2004
About Our Family Research
We have just begun to document our family history. In the first two weeks of our research, we discovered another half of our family from the Detroit area. We hope to share details and stories about our past histories. In their early twenties, Martin and Michael Klemczak came over from Poland around the turn of the century in search of better lives. Martin settled in Detroit, Michael in Philadelphia. We only know that they were from the western part of Poland, since Michael served in the German Army.
Michael's wife, Stella, was also born in Poland, but she came over when she was only 7 years old. She had 9 living brothers and sisters. After her father Joseph died in Poland, a few of her older siblings came over to the U.S. Eventually the rest of the family joined them in Philadelphia, her mother Mary Ann bringing the youngest. Their name was Trazaskawka, but they shortened it to Trask.
