About Our Family Research

My family was born in Alabama. Two brothers married two sisters and produced 35 offspring. The family surnames are Bankhead and Hagler. The Bankhead boys played in the Negro Baseball Leagues. Dan Bankhead became the first African-American pitcher in the majors. The Haglers and the Bankheads continue to make their home in Alabama. The Haglers and the Bankheads are a microcosm/case study of race relations in America. The boys have lived through the civial rights movement, fought in all the major wars and continue to thrive in a country that fails to fully respect the contribution of African-Americans. I intend to research and develop a body of data that can be used to illustrate the unique experience of the African-American through the eyes of this special family.
