I began researching my family tree after the sudden, unexpected death of my father, William Hensley Harmon(b.Jan. 3,1934 Parkersburg, Wood Co., WV), on Christmas Day 2000. (Age66). My father was the youngest of his family & the last to die. I was overcome by grief and needed a way to feel closer to him. I found genealogy a great comfort.
I grew up an "Army Brat", and since we traveled so much, I never knew most of my family, but adored the ones I did know.
Now that almost everyone I knew is gone, I am "connecting" with them thru genealogy. And who knows, I may meet up with other wonderful family members I never knew existed!
My grandmothers are both my proverbial "brick walls".
My dad's mom, Lodica Ellen Reed (b.7/18/1902,Mason Co.,WV d. 4/9/1937, Parkersburg, Wood Co., WV),married my grandfather, John Thomas Harmon (b.3/10/1875 Danville d.6/4/1952,Parkersburg, WoodCo.,WV)on April 10, 1920 in Williamstown,Wood Co.,WV. Her parents are listed on her death certificate as "Thomas & Estella Truman-Reed". The 1920 census lists my grandmother, Lodica and parents Thomas J. (age 57) and "Stilla" (age 43 or 48...hard to read), as well as siblings Flora (F, age 13), Edgar (M, age 9), John W. (M, age 5), Joseph H. (M, age 2 11/12), and Diantha E. (F, age 8/12).
My mom's mom, Valeria Marie Jefferies (b.2/6/1914,Barnesville, Belmont Co., OH d.1/17/1973 Zanesville, Muskingum Co.,OH) married my grandfather, Woodrow Levi Haught (b.3/7/1913, Fly, Monroe Co., OH d.5/8/1997 Zanesville, Muskingum Co., OH)in Barnesville, Belmont Co., OH in 1937. My grandparents had a child who died at the age of 28 days...his obituary lists my grandmother's parents as Nicholas & Sarah Jefferies of Barnesville, OH., however, the 1920 census lists my grandparents as James and Sallie Jefferies. My grandmother's name as well as a brother Herman Jefferies, and a sister Lillian Jefferies are also listed.
I am interested in any info that anyone can provide on my family. I can be emailed at HarmonBrat9761@wmconnect.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.....
