Derrick Family Tree

About Our Family Research

I am a direct descendents of George Derrick born in 1773 in Eastington, Gloucester. His wife is Mary Gregory.

We have our own website at where you wil find in depth information about everyone in the tree, plus photographs, message boards. This is regularly updated.

English Descendants

My own family has so far been traced back to George Derrick, from there we have worked through many names and lists and have managed to trace all the way down to our latest addition listed above...this has taken years, cost a fortune but every bit has been worth while. My main problem is I keep getting side tracks with all the new names I find....a common problem I'm sure..
Other English names included in this site are: Budding, Gregory, Hebbs, Quince, Spring, Wild & Woodward to name a few.

Australian Descendents.

I have also been contacted by two friends, one by the name of Delia Cuss who lives here in the UK and was contacting us on behalf of Gwen Taylor who lives in Australia. Gwen is a direct descendent of William Henry Derrick born in the UK on November 16th 1834 and who jumped ship to Australia. He married a lady called Lucy Anne Brown from Cambridge, UK, it is unknown as to whether they met here in the UK or out in Australia, but they were married on the 21st October 1865 in Australia.

Gwen Taylor has provided us with photos and also with two letters that were sent by William Henry Derrick of Dinder born May 30th 1863 to Caroline Derrick born February 9th 1882. Caroline was the daughter of William and Lucy Ann and is Gwen's great great Grandmother.

Her contribution was valuable beyond words as it allowed us to find the missing Derrick who, through age old stories we knew had jumped ship but didn't know where!

American Descendents

In August 2002 we had a breakthrough! Courtesy of a lady called Linda Gurney we now have a direct link with America. It appears that George's (b.1773) son James born on March 17th 1814 moved with his wife Elizabeth Derrick (nee Collier) and their two children Ann b.17th September 1838 and Sarah b.16 October 1840 to America. They landed in New York on 14th October 1841. They settled in Connecticut. They then went on to have another child, a son, called George William Derrick who was born on 21 January 1843. Linda Gurney has the family bible of Mary Gregory who was Georges wife. This is an exciting breakthrough and opens up a whole new avenue of research.

I had been trying to find a connection with Wilmington, North Carolina in an effort to trace who brought our family bible which was purchased from there around 1860 and presented to Isabelle Alice Derrick of Southampton on her 5th Birthday on 29th July 1863. Since starting the research however, I have been contacted by John Woodward (who has contributed some of the photos and information on this site) who also has a family bible. Johns bible was given to Maidie (Mary Ann Derrick) on her 7th birthday (31/12/1862) This Bible was purchased in Wilmington and was believed to have brought by her father, George Derrick (b. 1832) who was a mariner and presumably made the purchases when his ship called at Wilmington.

The Linford Family

In addition to the Derrick family the following names can also be found here Wild, Linford, Quince, and Dudley.

Work in progress - .I know of cousins in New Zealand but have failed to find a link to them yet!. In addition to this am trying to trace further details of family born in Singapore and India.
