NEWS FLASH UPDATE
Work on our Missouri Historical Records Advisory Board acess grant is progressing. A preliminary finding aid will be completed by late 2002. The three specific collections involved are the Bank of Carthage collection, the Jasper County Building & Loan/Marion Building & Loan collection, and the Wright-Powers family letter collection.
The latter alone contains over 100 boxes of letters from various members and friends of the Wright and Powers families and includes letters as early as the late 1860s and continues through early 1981. Check the main museum website at www.powersmuseum.com under the library/archives section to keep up to date on the progress of this work. *************************************************************
The Powers Museum of Carthage, Missouri is a local history museum devoted to the history of Carthage through rotating exhibits and educational programs. Also, the museum is site of a small reference library with local history materials that may augment the genealogical resources found elsewhere in the community (ie. Carthage Public Library, Jasper County Courthouse and the Jasper County Records Center).
However, the museum does hold the archival collection of Curtis Wright, who in 1915,wrote the book entitled GENEALOGY OF THE WRIGHT FAMILY AS DESCENDED FROM SIR JOHN WRIGHT OF ENGLAND. (Please note: use of this collection and other museum archival resources is by appointment only. Two weeks advance notice is suggested as only specific staff members have access to this material in special storage. Email inquiries are handled as staff and volunteer time permits.)
The museum has some basic information on its library holdings on its website: www.powersmuseum.com (or see links below). The museum is located at 1617 West Oak in Carthage, Missouri. This location is across from Municipal Park and just a block from Park Cemetery.

Archives/Library Access Policy
With the museum's re-opening and the re-location of the museum's reference library into smaller quarters, the only library resources that are available for informal, no-appointment consultation during regular business hours are the clipping files and the reference books on the shelves in the new library/office area.
Access to any other library and/or archival materials is by appontment only since these materials now are stored elsewhere and must be used with supervision.
A minimum of three business days is needed to arrange for such materials and during some periods when the Director/Curator is not available, additional advance notice will be necessary or records may not be available at all if appropriate personnel to assist researchers are not available. The museum appreciates your co-operation in this matter. If you have questions, please call or email the museum for further information.
