William M. JONES b. ca. 1860 AL m.1 "Pal" nickname JONES/GAMBLE Family lore has different stories. One said she was born a JONES and her mother died giving her birth and she was raised by her mother's family of GAMBLE's in Blount Co. AL. (Could she be the Parthenia listed on the 1860 Blount Co. Census with Henry GAMBLE but not on the 1862 Blount Co. AL Confederate census as a child? but appears again on the 1870 Morgan Co. AL census with him. Another story was that she was an Indian baby that was found by a GAMBLE man in Blount Co. and raised by him. Three sons were born to this union. Mack Gray b. 1883 AL, Columbus Bernard b. 1885 AL and Leland McKay b. 1888 AL. Another story says that Harriet Gamble's dau. married Bill JONES and they were the parents of Gray, Bernard and Lee. Pal died and Wm. remarried and had known sons William and Robert and lived in Marion Co.AL The 3 older brothers were mistreated by their stepmother and went to live with other relatives. In the 1900 Blount Co. AL census Gray lived with cousin Alfred BAKER, Bernard lived with cousin James A. CRUTCHER (Albert & Sissy) and Lee lived with non realative Tom Stepp. I have many photo's of GAMBLE's listed as cousins to my grandfather & brothers Bernard, Gray & Lee JONES. All data contained here probably has errors so consider that.
