Family History:
Rev. Simeon Harris was born 1761 in Hardy County, Virginia, and died 21 Feb 1847 in Gladly Creek, Barbour West Virginia. He married Christina Wesrfall Dec. 20, 1784 in Harrison County, Virginia. Simeon married Hannah Smith, a daughter of William Smith, in Harrison County,Virginia October 31, 1786.
Rev.Simeon Harris was one of the founded of the Primitive Baptist Church in 1795. The Little Bethel Church is the oldest church in Barbour County and the graveyard may be the oldest graveyard still in existence. Behind the church and very near to it, appropriately, is the grave of Simeon Harris, the preacher who reputedly married more people in the area than any other minister of his day.
