We are exploring the family records, particularly in conjunction with the beginnings and growth of the Methodist Church in the United States. Both the Smith (via Farrow and Totten), and the Wheatley (via Stevenson)lines were actively involved in the early church, both sides hosting Bishop Francis Asbury in their homes near Smyrna, Delaware.
The Smith family lived in the Germantown/Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia, possibly before the American Revolution.
The Staten Island Tottens were said to have emmigrated to Elizabeth. We would like to pinpoint this time.
In addition to the early days, of interest is information about the "horse car drivers" in Newark, NJ in the mid 1900's. John Spinning Totten was said to have been an accomplished driver.
Also, in more recent times, we are interested in the East Orange area of NJ where Russell Smith (a relative by marriage to Hazel Smith, may have had a feed store well into the 20th century.
