I started on the search when my aunt Liz asked if I knew who the father was of her gggrandfather.
Most of our Harmons are burried in the cementery at Ridge Baptish Church located in Summerville South Carolina. Ridge Baptist Church came about when Archibald M Harmon gave the land for the church in abt 1850's (will check date and correct)
Archibald and his descendents are burried there. A copy of his will list his children grandchildren and a few friends. By the cementary listings a very good time line and who's who's.
We recruited my uncle Ed Harmon ( he passed away july 27, 2006 ) so we could join the Harmon DNA project. After countless hours of researching I was totally convinced we were part of the Melchoir Harmon group that landed in Charleston SC and settled in the Lexington Newberry areas of South Carolina. The Melchoir group is also are part of the Harmon DNA project. Imagine how surprised I was when the results came back proving we were NOT related, not even close. So I had to start all over again.
So I took the DNA results and found where our DNA was the most common in the Balkin Island area, from the Vikings . I looked at where we started from and where they went and of couse where they entered the Colonies.
I found my oldest known male harmon ( my ggggrandfather) Archibald M Harmon in land plates and tax list. He was born abt 1810 im the Marion South carolina and lived there till abt 1838 moving the family to the St. James Goose Creek Parish South carolina.
While looking for more information on Archy I found many many more Harmons in the Pee Dee river area also Jefferies Creek. When I had the records pulled to look at them I found estate records estate sales who sold and who bought. I found letters asking for her husband estate to be settled and another certificate listing to the court who her cildren are.
I hope to use this web site to share my information which will included copies of everthing I have listed above including pictures from the early 1800's
