I'm researching both sides of my family, the Harris and the Young families, concentrating on the Harris side because there is less out there. The Youngs come from PEI, the Borehams from PEI though originating in Nova Scotia, the Crocketts from PEI, and that's where I'm at now. The Harris family has an adopted grandmother (Timpson her maiden name), and on the Harris side we have Harris from Lebreton Flats, Smiths from Quebec, and then we get into families from Ireland and England. That's my dad's side; my mother's is the Youngs and so far is English, Irish and Scottish.
Very interesting indeed, but would dearly love to find information on my paternal grandmother was I believe was born in 1912 and adopted in Eastern Ontario, Roman Catholic.
Also! Another mystery has been discovered. My maternal grandfather's mother, Laura Bourke had three children (including my grandfather) then abandoned the family around 1891? She later remarried and had another family in the U.S. She refused to meet with my grandfather when he was grown and had a child of his own (around 1915) because of this new family. So, who did she marry? And where did she live? Did she marry as Laura Young or Laura Bourke? Yes, a mystery indeed! This wasn't that tragic a story because my great-grandfather did remarry a Katherine McLean, had two more children and died at the ripe old age of 92.
For those who are wondering about James Wellington as spouse (when you pick partner it shows up as married), this is a common law marriage as of 2002, no children; at least this is how it stands as of 2006 for me.
