The Meeze Family Tree.

Meeze family legend suggests the name should have in fact been Cooper. According to the Census Returns for Somerset, Ephraim Mees was born in Nunney, near Frome, but he does not seem to appear in the Parish Baptism Records for Nunney or the surrounding villages. The only Ephraim christened in Nunney about the correct time was on the 3rd April 1796 being the son of Ephraim Cooper and Sarah Mees, they having been married on the 29th September 1789. If this Baptism is the right Ephraim then the family legend may very well be true. In early records Ephraim’s surname is shown as Mees, a number of different spellings appear through the years, namely Mee, Mees, Meese, Mease and finally Meeze.
