My grandfather, Henry Walta, came to the United States from the Netherlands by way of South Africa and Canada around the turn of the century. He was followed by two brothers; one stayed here and the other returned. My father, Jack Walta, was born in 1910 in South Dakota. In the sixties, I met my Dutch family for the first time, and probably at that moment, my interest in genealogy began. This is the first time, however, that I have seriously begun work on it. I have included information on the Kranz family of my mother, Elizabeth Kranz Walta, and the Hart family of my husband, Thomas J. Hart, Jr.
